Buying a ChatGPT Ads Account? Check Account, Card and Spend Claims First

Be cautious with “ready-made account,” “virtual card” and “unlimited spend” offers

If a provider says it can sell you a ChatGPT Ads account, supply a billing card, remove an account threshold or guarantee an unlimited-spend account, verify the claim directly with OpenAI before paying or sharing identity documents. OpenAI’s terms require accurate account information and prohibit misrepresenting or masking an advertiser’s identity or authority. A campaign manager may help an advertiser under written authority; that does not make the manager’s account a transferable substitute for the advertiser’s eligibility.

What a payment threshold actually means

For self-service card-billed accounts, OpenAI says a payment threshold triggers a charge when accrued unpaid spend reaches the assigned amount. It is not the campaign budget or an account spend cap. The threshold is assigned by OpenAI and cannot be manually changed by the advertiser or support. A higher threshold changes charge timing, not campaign budget or permission to spend without limits.

OpenAI describes campaign-total budgets and daily budgets. A campaign-total budget is the stricter control on total campaign spend. A daily budget is an average over a seven-day period and may vary by day within the documented weekly pacing rules. An account-wide daily spending limit is currently documented for eligible postpaid-invoice accounts; OpenAI says it is not available for self-service card-billed advertisers. Check the live billing and campaign screens because account eligibility and product controls can change.

Should you use a virtual card?

OpenAI’s billing guide says self-service card-billed setup requires a business billing profile and a payment method, with card details and billing address information. It does not establish that every virtual-card product will be accepted. Do not use a card or address that misstates who pays, bypasses a country rule, hides the advertiser, or violates the card issuer’s terms. Confirm directly in the official setup flow that your payment method is supported and that the account details truthfully match the advertiser.

If an ad is rejected or an account is restricted

First identify the actual status: an ad-level rejection, a campaign that is not serving, a billing failure and an account restriction are different problems. OpenAI’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the Ads Manager status and reason, account verification, billing, campaign dates and budget. If a particular ad was rejected, review the cited policy, correct the materials if appropriate and use the official review or support process if you believe the decision is mistaken.

Do not respond by buying another person’s account, changing identity details, masking location, cycling payment cards or trying to bypass review. Those actions can make the record less accurate and create further policy or payment issues. An independent agency cannot promise that OpenAI will restore access, remove a payment threshold or approve a replacement campaign.

A safer due-diligence checklist

  • Keep the advertiser’s own legal and billing information accurate.
  • Use the official Ads Manager signup and support routes.
  • Ask a provider for written scope, authority, account-access roles, fee treatment and exit steps.
  • Separate media budget, campaign budget, payment threshold and provider fee.
  • Do not share passwords, one-time codes or identity documents with an account seller.
