A practical ChatGPT Ads launch checklist
A ChatGPT Ads campaign should start with an eligible advertiser, one clear business objective and a destination page that can substantiate the ad. The setup screen is only one part of the launch: account verification, billing, campaign settings, ad review and delivery readiness all matter. OpenAI’s Ads Manager documentation can change during the beta, so verify the current controls in the account before building.
1. Write a one-page campaign brief
- Advertiser: legal entity, product or service, operating market and person authorized to approve the work.
- Customer problem: the real situation in which the offer may be relevant. Avoid claiming that a specific conversation or audience will always receive the ad.
- Action: the single next step the destination supports, such as viewing a product, booking or submitting an enquiry.
- Evidence: source records for claims about features, price, availability, qualifications or outcomes.
- Limits: offer exclusions, eligibility requirements, stock or service-area limits, and policy-sensitive claims.
2. Choose a campaign objective and budget deliberately
OpenAI’s current setup guide lists Views (CPM), Clicks (CPC) and Conversions. A Views campaign is billed by impressions; a Clicks campaign is billed for valid clicks; a Conversions objective uses a supported conversion event and can use click or impression billing when eligible. A conversion-optimized campaign is not billed per conversion. Decide based on the action you can measure and the billing model shown in the account.
OpenAI describes a campaign-total budget as the stricter overall cap. A daily budget is an average pacing target across a seven-day period; daily spend can vary, up to twice the selected daily budget on an individual day and no more than seven times over that week under the documented rule. Review the latest minimum budget by the account’s billing currency before launch. Never assume a payment threshold is a spend cap.
3. Structure the campaign
Group campaigns around meaningfully different business objectives, regions or product categories. Use ad groups for distinct customer needs or messages, and label them clearly. Context hints can explain the offer and situations where it may be useful; they are guidance for relevance, not exact-match keywords, audience guarantees or a way to force placement in a particular conversation.
4. Review the ad and destination together
Check the advertiser name, headline, body copy, image rights, offer details and landing page as one experience. The page should repeat the essential facts, explain material conditions, load for OpenAI’s web user agents and offer the action promised in the ad. Remove unsupported “best,” guaranteed result or official-affiliation language.
5. Verify measurement before spending
Define the conversion event before launch. Confirm the Pixel or Conversions API sends the intended event, preserve available click references through redirects, and test that a lead event fires only after a real submission. Review the privacy notice and required consent before sending conversion data. Separate Ads Manager clicks from analytics sessions, submitted enquiries from qualified opportunities, and campaign metrics from sales.
Before activation, check advertiser verification, billing, campaign status, dates, eligible locations, review status and remaining budget. OpenAI retains control over acceptance and delivery. giteroute can support an authorized build and post-launch review, but cannot guarantee approval or delivery. See the ChatGPT Ads management scope.
